A brilliant musician, not a brilliant concert...

As everyone said, starting almost an hour and a half late became quite annoying. The first two songs were disappointing and I began to wish I hadn't come. Just when he started to crank it up, he'd go off again on his audience participation which quickly got old. The musicians in the band were fabulous, the singers were very good, and Stevie ended with a bang, but I left hungering for Sunshine of My Life, and I Just Called... It was disappointing. He's still got it, but I wouldn't go to another concert of his. I had to see the incredible legend once...

Very puzzling show

I agree with what others are posting. I came online just to see what others posted, because I was so puzzled by last night's show.

First, we came early so that we could picnic but instead had to wait outside for an hour. We could hear the band and Stevie doing their soundcheck while we just stood there, waiting in the heat.

Second, the concert started 80 minutes late ... and when it finally did, Stevie seemed very dismissive of this. He said something like: "The press'll write about this, so sue me, fire me, whatever." It just didn't seem very respectful of fans who had been left waiting, might have babysitters being paid by the hour, or jobs to get to the next morning.

The concert never got into a rhythm. Others have mentioned the call-and-response, guests on stage, etc. -- all of this was fine, but wasn't what we had paid to see. I'd have rather had 1/4 of these tangents and instead heard more classic songs.

I've never been to concert where so many people left early. I'm not sure if it was due to how late it was getting, or if they were just disappointed in the experience, but it was definitely noticeable.

Finally, there was no encore, which I'd never experienced at a concert. It felt like the same disrespect that was given at the start of the concert to the fans extended to the end.

Despite all of this, we enjoyed the venue and a portion of the concert ... I just wouldn't bother going to another concert of his.

Very disappointed!

I love Stevie but didn't love his show. I totally agree with the other reviews. We stayed until the end hoping he would play the songs we came to know and love Stevie by. We brought our elderly parents to the show hoping to bring back some nostalgia. He should of given us more of a show since he made us wait an hour 1/2 to come out.

No Wonder

Went with anticipation, left with disappointment. This concert was a mess from its 1.25 hour late start to dreadful rap finish. We were told that the reason for the delay was that Stevie was bonding with a local “child” of 18 years old who is dealing with cancer, whom he introduced and who remained on stage the entire evening. He progressed into a diatribe about Obama, thanking God, and asking for everyone to pray for this child with cancer. Honey, if I wanted to go to church I would have gone. I came to listen to MUSIC. With all of the beautiful work in his cadre, Stevie Wonder performed a mess of scatting and call and response with the audience that never went anywhere. Very few classics were played and those that were just weren’t up to par. A local singer, who was decent, performed for a good ten minutes. One of his backup singers, with the voice of an angle, sang. A Wednesday’s child finished up the concert with a dreadful rap number, at which point the remaining 50% of the audience who were in still there got up and left. I paid to hear Stevie Wonder sing, not listen to this mess of a concert. Great venue, though, perfect weather. I’ll keep my Stevie Wonder cd’s and skip the concerts. Oh, and to the idiot sitting behind me that wouldn’t shut up, stay home if you can’t behave like an adult. You’re not as amusing as you think you are.

Stevie Wonder, I wonder....

I love Stevie Wonder. Do not get me wrong. He is one of the most prolific song writers of all time. His music spans the years and the lines of race, creed and color. How exciting to experience this legend at such a close distance! However, the show began late (which is not the biggest issue) and it seems as if he did not sing many of his most popular songs like "My Cheri Amore" and "I just called to say I Love you." Wonder often went off into these "call and response" rants that seemed to never end where he wanted the audience to repeat the mumbo jumbo that he sang. It was fun, but seemed to go on a bit too long. He also used the synthesizer and sang several songs on it which became a little annoying. Later on in the show, he brought on a young man from Wednesday's child to do a little rap, which also became a little uncomfortable. Needless to say, when Wonder did step into his "wonderfulness" he did so excellently singing with fervor and greatness. As a huge fan, I don't feel as if I got my complete monies worth, but it is what it is. A little bit more time should have been devoted to singing more songs from his beautiful collection. I have all of the cd's and records anyway. And yes, I said records.
