All Blues is the true story of Ray Sprigle, a white journalist who sets out to report on the black experience in the 1948 Jim Crow South first-hand, by disguising himself as a black man for 30 days. Assumption, observations and injustices are explored using the music of Oscar Brown, Jr. and Miles Davis.

All Blues, a new play by Robert Earl Price at Seven Stages is a must see. The play combines music, drama and historical facts to form a theatrical picture of grace and beauty as it depicts life in the south as viewed by a white journalist posing as a black man in 1948. In a larger sense, the play shows us how one group views "the other" which is all so relevant to 2011. The writing is beautiful, poetic and thought provoking. The play is layered with music underscored by Miles Davis classic "All Blues". The singing is beautiful, the drumming spellbinding, the moving minstrels playful, and the acting superb. While seeing the play, I laughed, I cried and most of all I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Please go and discuss with your family and friends.
