Let's Meet Downtown in the Synagogue Jews and Greeks in the Ancient World - American Lectures in the History of Religion

Friday, Apr 5, 2013 5:30p to 7:30p

John G. Gager, Jr., Princeton University, and 2013 Lecturer in the American Lectures in the History of Religion is delivering a lecture on the relationship between Jews and Greeks. Gager reviews some of the earliest Greek writings on Jews: "a nation of philosphers." This view changed over time to a more critical relationship between the Jews and Greeks, noted in John Chrysostom's sermons. These sermons mark tension between Jews and Greeks and become sources for later Christian anti-Judaism.
