We went (Husband, wife, 25 year old daughter) to see Mary Poppins on Sunday and it was amazing. The house was packed with children and they were mesmerized for the whole show, which is a long time for youngsters. The sets were quite inventive, especially the house, which opens like a dollhouse.
There were some new songs and scenes different from the movie because this play is a mix from the book and the movie. It is not all saccarine Disney fluff. I read some reviews where people thought it was a bit scary and dark in spots (toy uprising) and might scare children. I really doubt it. None near me were in the least bit afraid.
The actors were engaging, the dance numbers were lively, the orchestra wonderful, sets and costumes very inventive and it was an overall good time.
If you go expecting to see a carbon copy of the movie, you will be disappointed. Stay home, be boring, and rent it. Otherwise, get the best seats you can manage and have a great time.
