Kevin Rathbun Steak Beltline Patio

Kevin Rathbun Steak in Inman Park recently completed a 900-square-foot covered patio located steps away from the Atlanta Beltline. Dubbed the Beltline Patio, it features a 6-foot-wide fireplace built from reclaimed brick, a Big Ass brand ceiling fan, a seating area and two cocktail rails. As I’ve been an abiding fan of chef Kevin Rathbun’s first namesake restaurant, Rathbun’s, I always figured that Kevin Rathbun Steak would be just the chophouse for me. The long, eclectic menu here lists all kinds of hot and cold appetizers, non-steak options and creative side dishes. One could, for instance, start with oysters on the half shell and a chopped salad, and then go on a porterhouse steak and an elbow macaroni and cheese tart for a slightly updated steak house menu.

Good, but overhyped?

My wife and I went to Rathbun's steak this past weekend and were pleased with excellent service, good food and a neat atmosphere. Although, there wasn't much distinction in the dry-aged Bone-in Rib eye between a Bones or a Chops dry-aged steak. A nice play on the Mac and Cheese although no one in the city does it better than O.K. Cafe. The Steak Tartar was some of the best I have had and the escargot was very satisfying. We enjoyed the open Kitchen and Rathbun himself was there overseeing the operation. I highly recommend trying the steak with the truffle butter sauce accompaniment. An overall great experience...although charging for valet parking is a bit much. Honestly it's the principal more than anything. When you spend that much on dinner, the restaurant should definitely make it complimentary.
