The Highlander

When the Highlander opened back in 1992, the manicured, suburban-style Midtown Promenade strip center on Monroe Drive seemed like an unlikely location for the would-be dive bar and music venue. But some 16 years on, it’s proved to be a wildly popular late night destination. The expansive menu covers all the pub grub standards -- big burgers, wings, fish and chips, and a variety of appetizers and sandwiches. But entrees include comfort food classics, like chicken pot pie and beef stroganoff, plus pasta, marinated pork chops, and strip steak. If there’s a unifying theme to the cooking, though, it’s hearty and spicy foods rule. (Full review)
