I've gone to Parish a few times, and enjoyed the food and particularly the atmosphere. However, on my most recent visit, the customer service was beyond unprofessional. I looked at one of the chochkies they hock at the counter, replaced it just as it had been, and it fell. The server asked me to pay for it and I said that I shouldn't be liable, since it fell due to being placed in a precarious way (some ceramic article on a stick, stuck into a bowl of pebbles, which didn't hold it up properly--most of those in the bucket were in fact already broken).
It was only $6, but I was shocked that she would ask us to pay for it. I refused. We got our coffee, sat down, and after our friends, arrived, we went into the counter to order our breakfast. The employee had her back to the room and was loudly complaining about us to her fellow staff. I confronted her about it, and she offered no apology whatsoever, but rather made up some excuse.
It was a completely unprofessional way to handle the situation, especially over an item that barely costs more than one of their overpriced coffee drinks. I won't be returning any time soon.

Some things have changed for Parish Foods & Goods since it opened nearly two years ago. Painted into the now bustling mural-like landscape of Highland Avenue in Inman Park, the restaurant opened with a bang, then wrestled with the business of getting on with things.
(Full review)In Louisiana, what most of us would think of as a county is called a parish. It’s a good name for a new restaurant from Bob Amick and Todd Rushing in Inman Park: split on two levels, the restaurant is home to three concepts: the New Orleans-inspired restaurant upstairs, a market with sundries, coffee, fresh juices and pastries and a to-go counter in front of the kitchen with po’ boys, sammies and such. Parish Foods & Goods embodies the best of Amick as restaurateur: rich character and a fun, enjoyable menu. Flawed, but never dull. And full of surprises and hospitality.
