Pregnant by her own father for the second time, 16-year-old Claireece ``Precious'' Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) can neither read nor write and suffers constant abuse at the hands of her vicious mother (Mo'Nique). Precious instinctively sees a chance to turn her life around when she is offered the opportunity to transfer to an alternative school. Under the patient, firm guidance of her new teacher, Ms. Rain (Paula Patton), Precious begins the journey from oppression to self-determination.

Some slow moments but very original, raw, and provocative!! Monique certainly deserves an Oscar (best actress) for her role. A real tear jerker. The young lady that played Precious was very good to have come straight off of the street. Definitely a must see film for movie goers. The movie grabs you from the onset.

This is an intense, and tragic movie, after all the hype, I must admit it was a bit of a let down, better suited for a HBO movie, like "LIFE SUPPORT" I sure hope Gabby gets some help with her weight she is way too big for a 26 year old, with no children. Americans like tragedy and violence, so this movie will make a mint!
