(03/16/2006) This family-oriented, socially conscious Fourth Ward neighborhood bakery specializes in chemical-free, stone-ground products. Breakfast specialties such as dreamy sweet potato pancakes with brown sugar syrup are easy to throw back in a sparse, industrial setting highlighted by big windows and big art. Lunch might be (should be) a grilled cheese with sharp cheddar on rosemary garlic bread. But really, save room for a slice of carrot cake -- big, dense and moist -- or an enormous slice of soft, doughy bread pudding smothered with crème anglaise. All the cakes here are worth blowing your daily (weekly?) calorie count.
