Join us in the opening of our 11th season as we visit Foreign Shores, featuring Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony and Hebrides Overture. Inspired by his 1830 tour of Scotland, these works evoke the landscape and culture of the Scottish mainland, as well as the dramatic Fingal's Cave in the Hebrides Archipelago. Complementing these auditory portraits are two works inspired by fictional travels of Nordic folklore, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 and the haunting Sibelius tone poem The Swan of Tuonela.
